Rotten Apples Engagement Shoot

Ashley and Dan will be getting married in the fall of 2012 but before then, they wanted to experience one of Artäge Pictures famous Themed Engagement Shoots. At the heart of the project is the couple, creating something that is an extension of their personalities. The next step is trying to find a song that provides the proper mood and setting for the project. Artäge Pictures never uses the same song twice (nor recreates projects for that matter!) and music is always provided by independent artists. Once we have the mood and the song, the rest usually falls in place quite quickly. This song, “Rotten Apples”, coupled with the fall season, begged for the shoot to occur in a local apple orchard. After that, it’s up to Heidi and Steve, principle photographers from Artäge Pictures, to create visually stunning images and effects. After the shoot, the hard part begins; namely post-production editing. Artäge Pictures uses Adobe Lightroom for image processing and ProShow Producer for slideshow creation.

For professional photographers and novices alike, here’s a bit more information about this project’s creation: the shoot was stills only and a tripod was often utilized for the stop-motion sequences. We immediately colour correct all of the images and then in ProShow, start working on the stop-motion sequences first. Stand-alone images are used to bridge the special effect sequences. The shoot was about three hours long and nearly 300 images are used in the final project.

Meg + Rob | A wedding at Gladstone Hotel | Sneak Peek

If you’d like an introduction to Meg + Rob, you need look no further than their wonderful ENGAGEMENT SHOOT

This funky couple, despite being obvious lovers of the great outdoors, decided to have their wedding at the Gladstone Hotel, nestled in Toronto’s trendy Queen St West area. Adding to the uniqueness of this event is Rob’s Scottish background - yes kilts and single malt scotch were featured prominently throughout the day! As if planning a wedding is not hard enough - Meg and Rob recently moved to Calgary so “to the rescue” came Event Planner Machel Reeves of Machel Reeves Special Events. Every cool little detail of the wedding was perfectly complimentary to the coolness that is the Gladstone Hotel - awesome job Machel!

As is becoming more and more common, Meg + Rob decided to have a “first look” or “reveal” before the ceremony so that they could have plenty of time for photos before the actual ceremony (plus you get the added bonus of more time with your guests right after the ceremony)! We were commissioned with the task of finding the appropriate place for this dramatic first meeting - the Art Bar within the Gladstone Hotel was perfect. That it had paintings of forest scenes and canoes was fateful.

Last but not least, we must say that Meg+Rob handled themselves marvelously. There was massive construction all along Queen St, a nip in the air, this strange “Black Magic” that seemed to affect many of the the men (Black Magic scotch in the flasks!) not too mentioned having to fly in and out of the city over a very busy weekend. Meg, Rob, what can we say…You’re Marvelous! (add Billy Crystal accent)

Have an awesome honeymoon and make sure you ring us when you’re back - there’s like a bagillion more photos to show you!

Meg + Rob | Canoe + Camera = Engagement Shoot

Meg and Rob will be having a very funky wedding at the Gladstone Hotel next month (which we are so looking forward to!) but until then it was all about their engagement shoot. When questioned what was their biggest passion, it was, hands down, canoeing (in fact, Rob even has the word canoe in his personal email address!) While there were a number of options in the Toronto area, Meg and Rob really wanted to capture what weekends were like for them - namely off canoeing in one of Ontario’s amazing provincial parks. You can imagine how hard it is for busy photographers to find time for a trip like this (thanks Grandma for watching the kids!), but Meg and Rob now live in Calgary so it was doubly hard! After much calendar analysis, Awenda Provincial Park during
the Labour Day long weekend was the winner and despite many warnings about rain, the shoot went extremely well. Almost as good as these images (and dare we say they are wicked!) Meg and Rob’s one-pot dinner afterward was a very close, and very delicious second!

Thanks guys for your time and the yummy dinner! Hope you love them!
